The Hampton Roads Bridge – Tunnel is a 3.5 mile long crossing for Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 60 comprising of bridges, artificial islands and tunnels under the shipping channels of Hampton Roads harbor in the southeastern region of Virginia in the United States.

The Olympiapark in Munich, Germany is an Olympic stadium which was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. The Park also serves as a venue for cultural, social and religious events.

Designed by the German architect Gunther Behnisch and the engineer Frei Otto, the Olympiapark was considered revoluationary for its time, as it made extensive use of tensile structures.

The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge in Japan is the longest suspension bridge in the world, that crosses the Akashi Strait linking Maiko in Kobe and Iwaya on Awaji Island as part of the Honshu-Shikoku Highway.

The bridge was designed to withstand winds up to 286 kmph (178 mph), earthquakes measuring up to 8.5 on the Richter Scale and harsh sea currents. The bridge has been incorporated with pendulums that operate at the resonant frequency of the bridge to dampen forces on it.
